It isn't a misspelling...
GLAS is actually Gaelic for ‘green’, and was chosen to reflect our strong Irish heritage and our commitment to being environmentally friendly.
We envisioned a warm, inviting coffeehouse that provided a “really good cup of coffee,” as well as a place to sit down, relax and enjoy good conversation. From this vision, Glas was created.
Many call Glas a “traditional coffeehouse.” In the 17th century, a coffeehouse was where men were equal and social ranking was irrelevant. Great thinkers like Voltaire went to coffeehouses simply to muse and share their thoughts. Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and other prominent musicians began their careers by performing in small coffeehouses.
GLAS offers that same warm and inviting place where you can chat with friends, just like coffeehouses of the 17th century. Feel free to relax and take in the breathtaking maritime view, experience local art, listen to live music and, of course, enjoy a good cup of coffee.
We have the drinks you would expect to find in a traditional
coffee house, including lattés, breves, cappuccinos,
americanos, macchiatos and mochas, as well as a few of
our own specialty drinks.
We also serve only loose-leaf teas to provide you with the highest quality tea by the cup or by the pot. Try our all-natural hot cocoa and fruit smoothies.
We also serve sandwiches and light entrees if you are craving more than just something to drink. Or try one of our sweet delicacies like biscotti, muffins, scones, bagels, sweet bars, or cookies from the bakery.
Although our focus is on family, friends, witty conversation, and taking a few moments to relax with a good cup of coffee, we are also conscious of the environment. From the demolition of the former building to the construction of the new building to the interior furnishings, equipment and products, we have demonstrated our concern for the environment -- and will continue to do so.
